WUST News (Reporter: Chen Machuan) - On the morning of May 13, a delegation from Vrije University Amsterdam in the Netherlands visited the Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST). The delegation included Frank van Harmelen, a member of the Academia Europaea and Professor at Vrije University Amsterdam, and Huang Zhisheng, a tenured professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence. Xu Yanbing, Secretary of the Party Committee of WUST, and Lv Yong, Vice President, attended the symposium.

Secretary Xu Yanbing warmly welcomed Frank van Harmelen and his delegation ahead of the 2025 World Digital Education Conference. He thanked Vrije University Amsterdam and Frank van Harmelen for their longstanding support and collaboration with WUST. Xu Yanbing emphasized Vrije University Amsterdam's world-leading expertise in artificial intelligence and computer science, noting Prof. Frank van Harmelen's status as a globally renowned scientist in AI. He proposed deepening cooperation in discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific research to jointly advance high-level educational and scientific initiatives.
Prof. Frank van Harmelen thanked the WUST for its hospitality and highly commended their research achievements and contributions in related fields. He stated that Vrije University Amsterdam is committed to fostering global partnerships and that it shares aligned research interests and goals with the WUST in AI. The two institutions have established a joint research team with the WUST's School of Computer Science and Technology, and are looking forward to expanding their collaboration to include academic exchanges, faculty and student mobility, and joint research, with the aim of cultivating high-level talent with an international outlook and innovative capabilities. Prof. Frank van Harmelen also invited WUST faculty and students to visit Vrije University Amsterdam to further deepen mutual collaboration.
Representatives from Vrije University Amsterdam, along with heads of relevant departments and schools at WUST, participated in the symposium.
