    Complutense University of Madrid Visits WUST

    WUST News (Reporter: Qin Yu) On July 3, a delegation from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, including Vice Presidents Miguel Ángel Sastre Castillo and María Concepción García Gómez, International Department Head Juan Carlos Izquierdo Villaverde, and Director of China Office Alonso Tang, paid a visit to the WUST. Xu Yanbing, Secretary of the School Party Committee, met with the guests. President Ni Hongwei and Vice President Lv Yong welcomed the visitors at the Huangjiahu Campus and led them to visit the campus.

    Xu Yanbing met with the Complutense guests in the Huachuang Hall of the Main Building at the Qingshan Campus. The two parties shared updates on their progress and work plans for establishing the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute, Wuhan University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Cooperative Institute). They expressed their commitment to strengthening coordination with bilateral governments and actively cooperating to expedite and enhance the implementation and establishment of the Cooperative Institute.

     

    During the symposium, Ni Hongwei extended a warm welcome on behalf of the WUST to Mr. Miguel and his delegation. He stated that the WUST is dedicated to establishing a high-quality Cooperative Institute, offering a platform for high-level academic exchanges, research collaboration, and student development. Through joint efforts, the application of the Cooperative Institute has received widespread support and achieved remarkable progress. The WUST will further enhance mechanism construction and resource allocation, accelerate cultural and academic exchange and cooperation, and actively explore a collaborative education program with unique features of both schools.

    Miguel expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and highly commended the campus environment and educational resources at the Huangjiahu Campus. He outlined the basic information of the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, its achievements in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, and the EU's projects related to high-level talent exchange. He also invited faculty members from certain disciplines to participate in academic exchanges during the fall semester. Views were exchanged on the office and living support for academic visits by teachers from the Complutense University of Madrid.

    During the meeting, Xiao Qiaoling, the Party Secretary of the International School, Ding Yiming, the Dean of the School of Sciences, and Chen Xi, the Vice Dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering, introduced details regarding the cooperative program of their schools. The representatives from both parties exchanged gifts.

    Prior to the meeting, the visiting delegation toured the School of Sciences, International School, the Artificial Intelligence Engineering Practice and Innovation Center (under construction), Qin Lake, and the Alumni Memorial Garden.

    Representatives from the WUST's Party and Administration Office, the Office of International Relations, the Campus Construction Department, and the Undergraduate College, as well as faculty members from the School of Sciences and the School of Information Science and Engineering, participated in the discussions.

    Complutense University of Madrid, Spain has the longest history, the largest scale and the most complete disciplines in Spain. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, it ranks first in Spain and has produced a total of seven Nobel Prize laureates. The school currently has 80,000 students, including approximately 9,000 international students.
