On October 7, Stanford University and Elsevier, the world’s authoritative academic publisher, jointly released the 2026 World's Top 2% Scientists list. A total of 18 WUST scholars were included in the Career-Long Scientific Impact List, and 58 scholars in the Annual Scientific Impact List. WUST ranks first among all provincial universities in Hubei Province in terms of the number of selected scholars on both lists.

The total number of WUST scholars on the list has increased by 17 compared with last year, and the number of selected scholars on both the Career-Long Scientific Impact List and the Annual Scientific Impact List has reached an all-time high. This achievement reflects the continuous improvement of WUST’s research strength and international reputation, and marks remarkable outcomes in the development of its high-level talent team and scientific research innovation capacity.

The World's Top 2% Scientists list selects the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on a set of metrics including citation counts, h-index, co-author-adjusted hm-index, citation ranking of papers by distinct authors, and comprehensive indicators. It covers 20 major fields and 174 sub-fields, with scholars from over 700 universities in Chinese mainland featured on the list. Specifically, the Career-Long Scientific Impact List evaluates scientists’ comprehensive performance throughout their academic careers, while the Annual Scientific Impact List focuses on academic influence in the preceding year.
