WUST News - On September 25, the finals of the 2025 Hubei Province Outbound Chinese Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition were held at the Hubei Broadcasting and Television Media Building. Wang Zhonglin, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, attended the competition and presented the grand prize to the winner. Provincial leaders He Liangjun, Peng Yong, and Li Donghui participated in the event and presented gold and silver awards to the winners. Professor Fu Lvping's team from Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) won the gold medal with their project “Key Technologies for the Preparation and Integrated Design of High-Temperature Industrial Insulation Long-Life Refractory Furnace Linings,” making them the only team from a provincial university to receive this honor.

The project addresses the urgent need for the green and high-end transformation in high-temperature industries. It introduced the innovative design concept of "aggregate microporosity and matrix densification" for insulation long-life refractory materials. The team developed a microporous corrosion-resistant theory and achieved the world's first industrial-scale production of microporous corundum materials containing intra-crystalline nano-micro pores. This breakthrough resolves key challenges in material design, preparation techniques, and integrated design for high-temperature industrial insulation furnace linings, significantly enhancing service life, insulation performance, and refining quality. The technology has been successfully applied in enterprises such as Baowu Group and has supported major national projects including the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and deep-water oil drilling platforms.
Launched in April, this year's competition targeted returnees and doctoral/postdoctoral researchers studying abroad. Centered on Hubei’s key industries, it featured seven tracks: Robotics and Advanced Equipment Manufacturing, Next-Generation Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, New Energy and Energy Conservation and Energy Conservation, New Materials and Petrochemicals, Biomedicine and Big Health, Modern Agriculture and Food, and Other Industries. The competition drew participation from 551 Chinese doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who are currently studying or have preciously studied across 28 countries and regions, with a total of 215 projects submitted. After multiple rounds of intense competition, one grand prize, two gold awards, and six silver awards were selected. (Office of Human Resources)
