WUST News - On the morning of September 16, Mr. Pilas Santos German Gesus, Vice Rector of Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), visited Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST). President Ni Hongwei met with the guests, accompanied by Vice President LV Yong. The visit included a campus tour and in-depth discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral educational collaboration.
During the meeting, President Ni Hongwei highlighted that the establishment of the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute, the first educational collaboration platform between a provincial university in Hubei and a top 200 QS-ranked global institution, fills a gap in Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools among provincial universities in Hubei. It is set to become a vital link in educational exchanges between China and Spain. WUST regards the construction of the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute as a cornerstone of WUST’s internationalization strategy and a key bridge in Sino-Spanish educational exchanges. WUST is committed to developing the Institute into a benchmark for international educational cooperation by systematically advancing the curriculum internationalization, faculty development, and talent cultivation, integrating the best of Chinese and Spanish educational practices.
During the campus tour, Vice President LV Yong outlined WUST’s commitment to high-standard infrastructure and resource provision for the Institute. A new teaching building, designed to meet the demands of international education, is under rapid development. This facility will provide enhanced hardware support for academic exchanges and joint research between Chinese and Spanish faculty and students, fostering deeper integration of educational philosophies and resources.
In subsequent discussions, Vice President Ma Teng noted the successful initial enrollment of the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute, which achieved both scale and quality in student recruitment. He looks forward to steadily expanding undergraduate education projects and deepening cooperation in areas such as joint postgraduate training, research platform development, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research on major projects. These efforts aim to establish a comprehensive, multi-tiered cooperation framework supporting high-quality development at both institutions.
Vice Rector German congratulated WUST on its successful launch of the Institute and shared UCM’s proven practices in innovative enrollment, holistic student development, and teaching quality assurance.
Moving forward, WUST will accelerate preparations for the inauguration ceremony of the new cohort at the Institute, establish regular communication mechanism, and implement phased plans to continuously enhance the quality of education. These initiatives will provide a robust platform for cultivating high-caliber talents with international perspectives and core competitiveness.
Officials from the Office of International Relations and WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute participated in the activities.
