WUST News – Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) achieved outstanding results at the national finals of the 2025 China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition (MEICC) – Mechanical Product Digital Design Contest, held recently at Nanchang University. Two teams from WUST were awarded national first prizes in the Digital Twin category.

This year's competition focused on the theme "Digital and Intelligent Upgrading of Mechanical Products to Empower the Development of the Low-Altitude Economy," and featured two main tracks: Design and Digital Twin. The Engineering Training Center at WUST assembled a dedicated instructor team and, leveraging the Hubei Province New Engineering Base (Innovation and Practice Base for Intelligent Manufacturing and Digital Twin Technology) along with the Intelligent Manufacturing Digital Twin Integration Base, organized three student teams to participate in the Digital Twin category. Through continuous optimization of manufacturing processes, machining parameters, and scheduling plans, the teams led by Chen Shaokang and Liu Zhiwu from the School of Mechanical Engineering advanced to the national finals and each secured first prizes.

The Digital Twin competition focused on four key components in the low-altitude economy field, requiring participating teams to complete tasks such as multi-variety parts production process design, CAM CNC turning/milling programming, multi-period scheduling plan design and optimization, and digital twin production verification of intelligent production lines. The competition evaluated students’ evaluated comprehensive application of intelligent manufacturing technologies and teamwork abilities, using production data such as production efficiency, equipment utilization, and equipment balance rates of intelligent production lines as key evaluation indicators.

Hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the MEICC is a major national competition for students in mechanical engineering, materials science, industrial engineering, and related disciplines. It has been listed in the National Regular Higher Education Student Competition Analysis Report for multiple consecutive years. This year’s event attracted 2,571 teams from across China, with 253 advancing to the national finals. The competition adopted a "Track-Event" format, featuring three tracks: Creativity Track, Innovation Track, and Graduation Design Track. The Mechanical Product Digital Design Contest served as the sole event under the Creativity Track. (Engineering Training Center)
