    WUST Hosts the 16th Innovation Development Forum

    WUST News - Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST), in collaboration with China Science Daily, hosted the 16th Innovation Development Forum from July 14-15 at the Biyuan Auditorium on its Qingshan Campus. The forum, themed "Leading the Future of Industry Through High-Level Scientific and Technological Supply and Dissemination of High-Level Academic Achievements," provided a platform for in-depth discussions on scientific research innovation and the effective dissemination of academic findings.

    The event drew a distinguished group of attendees, including: Zhang Qifa, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Huazhong Agricultural University; Liu Fengsong, Chairman of the Editorial Board and former Party Secretary of China Science Daily; Ma Guibing, Member of the Party Group and Secretary-General of the Hubei Association for Science and Technology; Mei Shuqi, Vice President of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Ni Hongwei, President of the WUST; Sun Guosheng, Deputy Party Secretary; and Dong Lijie, Vice President.

    President Ni Hongwei welcomed the attendees on behalf of the university, expressing his gratitude to the leaders, experts, and scholars for their participation. He emphasized the crucial role of disseminating high-level academic achievements in driving technological innovation and societal progress. “Academic achievements only realize their full potential through widespread dissemination and application,” he stated. He further stressed the importance of universities strengthening collaborations with academia, industry, and the media to facilitate the broader adoption of research findings. President Ni highlighted WUST's commitment to achieving a "first-class discipline breakthrough" among provincial universities in Hubei, focusing on enhancing the reach and impact of its scientific achievements to accelerate the development of its key disciplines and advance towards becoming a distinctive, high-level university.

    Liu Fengsong, in his address, described the Innovation Development Forum as a dedicated platform for intellectual exchange among scientists. He acknowledged the challenges many researchers face in effectively communicating their work and expressed his hope that the forum would further encourage the creation, publication, and widespread dissemination of impactful research.

    Ma Guibing emphasized the significance of hosting the Innovation Development Forum in Hubei, calling it a major event for the province's scientific community. He affirmed the Hubei Association for Science and Technology's continued support for such high-caliber academic activities. He also praised China Science Daily's long-standing commitment to covering the work of scientists in Hubei, effectively sharing their stories and producing high-quality content. Ma expressed his hope that the newspaper would further amplify its coverage of Hubei's scientific community to cultivate a supportive public environment.

    Mei Shuqi and Professor Jiang Tao, Director of the Sixth Generation Mobile Communication Research Center at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, also spoke as representatives of the scientific community. They underscored that the dissemination of high-level scientific research is as vital as the research itself. They thanked China Science Daily and WUST for providing a valuable platform for exchange and wished the forum a continued success.

    The keynote session featured a series of insightful presentations. Zhang Qifa presented a special report on "Health Governance, Whole Grain Action, and Green Nutrition Super Rice". Professor Ye Zhewei from Huazhong University of Science and Technology introduced the latest advancements in "AI Empowering Medicine". Professor Yang Hong from the University of Reading provided a systematic overview of high-level paper writing skills. Yan Jie, Director of the Online Media Center at China Science Daily, shared insights on scientific visualization. Liu Fengsong delivered a report titled "Style - Approaching the Spiritual World of Great Scientists". The forum also featured a special report by Liu Shoupeng, Deputy Director of Outreach and Strategic Partner Development at Science/AAAS, who offered a detailed explanation of topic selection, editorial preferences, and submission strategies for leading international journals.

    In the closing session, Professor Li Yibo from the College of Life Science and Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University and Professor Li Xiangcheng from the Faculty of Materials at WUST shared their key takeaways from the forum. They lauded the event for being both high-level and practical, providing valuable insights into topic design, dissemination methods, and enhancing science communication skills.

    More than 300 experts and scholars from over 20 universities and research institutions, including Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the forum. This event was jointly organized by the Hubei Correspondent Station of China Science Daily, WUST's Publicity Department, the Office of Research and Development, and Faculty of Materials.

    The Innovation Development Forum, jointly initiated by the China Science Daily and the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology in October 2010, with Chinese-American physicist and Nobel Laureate Tsung-Dao Lee as the first chairman. has consistently focused on "promoting innovative development".
