    WUST Crowns Top Innovators for the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2025)

    WUST News (Reporter: Zou Yifan, Photographer: Li Yuchang) On the afternoon of June 5th, the Gold Award Ranking Competition for the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2025) was held at the Biyuan Auditorium on the Qingshan Campus of WUST. Twenty gold award teams showcased their project achievements through presentations and defenses, demonstrating their innovative capabilities.

     The panel of expert judges included Liao Min, General Manager of Central China Region at Fortune Venture Capital, who was also a judge at the national finals of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition. Also on the panel was Yu Feng, Chairman of Wuhan Hongshan Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd., and Executive Director of Wuhan Hongchuang Asset Management Co., Ltd. Those attending the event included Lv Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President; Zhang Zhiqing, Deputy Dean of the Undergraduate School and Dean of Xiangtao School; Li Yin, Executive Dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Zhu Hongbing, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School; Cai Jian, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department and Director of the Graduate Employment Guidance Center; Chen Wensi, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee; as well as deputy secretaries of college party committees, counselors and project mentors.


    In his speech, Lv Yong expressed that the event aims to inspire everyone to transform classroom learning into tools for solving real-world problems, enhancing skills and talents through innovative practice. He highly praised the students' innovative achievements, emphasizing that innovation should be rooted in practice and tested by the market. He revealed that the innovation and entrepreneurship base of the Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) incubates over 60 teams, with last year's revenue exceeding 50 million yuan. Hubei Province is promoting technological entrepreneurship among more than 2 million university students and faculty, and the WUST has launched the "Tech Maker Launch Plan" to focus on cultivating key projects. He encouraged students to be pioneers, delve into practice, collaborate on challenges, and respond to the call to engage in technological innovation, contributing youthful energy to the nation's development.

    During the event, participants presented a variety of innovative achievements including Hubei cultural celebrity IPs supporting cultural dissemination and economic growth, technology therapies precisely identifying and targeting gastric cancer stem cells, and intelligent masonry robot systems for refractory material construction. Following the presentations, the project "Lijing Coating", which is dedicated to developing thermal protective coating materials for high-temperature industrial equipment, was awarded first place. Second to fourth places were won by Micro Cloud Engine—Leader in High-Precision Drive and Control Technology for Industrial Robots, Treating Waste with Waste, and Memory Care-Preventing Alzheimer's, Protecting Unique Memories. Projects such as Solid Gold Material, a Pioneer in Nano-Scale Anti-Seepage Wear-Resistant Materials for Hydraulic Infrastructure ranked fifth to twentieth. The awards were presented by Lv Yong, Li Yin, Zhang Zhiqing, Cai Jian, and Chen Wensi.

    The event was hosted by the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Students' Affairs Office, the Youth League Committee, the Undergraduate School, and the Graduate School. Since its inception, the event has attracted over 3,900 project entries and involved 15,146 students. Twenty projects advanced to the finals, covering cutting-edge fields such as new materials, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.
