WUST News From 30 November to 4 December, President Ni Hongwei led a delegation to Spain at the invitation of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education to participate in the Sino-European University Presidents' Dialogue organised by the Ministry. The delegation also visited the Complutense University of Madrid.

On 2 December, the Ministry of Education hosted the Sino-European University Presidents' Dialogue at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, attended by Minister Huai Jinpeng. The event saw participation from 25 universities across 7 countries, with WUST being the only local institution from China invited.
During the conference, President Ni spoke on the topic of "Sino-European Engineering and Technology Talent Development". He discussed the WUST's initiatives and plans in four key areas: focusing on the specialized training of metallurgical talent based on discipline and industry characteristics; building interdisciplinary international teams at the forefront of global metallurgical development; establishing international industry-academia-research platforms to promote the training of outstanding engineers; and developing Sino-European joint educational programs to cultivate international, innovative professionals.
Following the conference, President Ni and his delegation attended the launch ceremony in Spain of the initiative for doubling the number of European youth exchanges to China. The initiative aims at enhancing exchanges between Chinese and European youth and fostering a generation of young talents with global perspectives to promote understanding and friendship through interaction and collaboration.
While in Spain, the delegation also visited the Complutense University of Madrid. The meeting was attended by Rector Joaquín Goyache Goñi and the heads of the university's office and international projects department.
Rector Joaquín Goyache Goñi welcomed the return visit of the WUST delegation. He expressed his plans to attend the World Conference on Digital Education 2025 in Wuhan in May 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Hubei Province, and to visit WUST.
President Ni thanked Rector Joaquín Goyache Goñi for the warm welocome and invited him to visit the WUST in May 2025. Both parties expressed their commitment to further develop cooperation projects between the WUST and the Complutense University of Madrid. During the visit, the establishment of a Spanish Language and Culture Exchange Centre and an International Laboratory for Data Science and Applications were also discussed.
This trip to Europe significantly promoted the developmental achievements of WUST, expanded its international influence, deepened exchanges with European partners, explored new areas of cooperation, and marked a significant step forward in enhancing WUST's international exchanges and collaborations.
