On November 7, Shanghai Ranking, a professional institution of higher education evaluation, officially released the 2022 Top 100 Chinese Universities in Engineering. Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) ranks 79th on the list, ranking 5th among colleges and universities seated in Hubei, and is the only province-run university to make the list.

Shanghai Ranking's 2022 Top 100 Chinese Universities in Engineering involves in two grades: grade A+ and grade A. Grade A+ universities refer to the top 20 Chinese universities in terms of engineering strength, which amounts to the top 2% of all the rated universities of engineering; Grade A universities refer to the No.21 to No.100 Chinese universities in terms of engineering strength, which amounts to the top 2% to 10% of all the rated universities of engineering.
The objects of the Shanghai Ranking are all the universities included in the 2022 Best Chinese Universities Ranking, with 37 subjects under the engineering category. The evaluation criteria consist of 21 indicators in 8 dimensions, including subject scale, subject strength, subject accuracy, high-end talent, scientific research project, major achievement, academic paper, and scientific research platform.
By closely upholding the new requirements for higher education development in the new era, WUST has attached great importance to the building of a new engineering subject in recent years and taken initiative to be involved in the new industrial revolution.
