    WUST Xiao Qiaoling Presents at 2025 International Conference on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools

    WUST News (Correspondents: Pan Ni, Xu Yongkang) — The 2025 International Conference on English Teaching and Research in Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools was held from November 21 to 23 at the Science & Technology Building of Beijing University of Technology. Nearly 280 scholars and experts gathered to explore innovative paradigms for English teaching within the context of Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools. Associate Professor Xiao QiaolingDean of the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute, was invited to the conference and delivered remarks in Session III.

    In her presentation, themed around faculty development and collaboration in Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run educational projects, Ms. Xiao proposed a multifaceted framework for building a high-quality, sustainable teaching workforce. Her insights covered teacher training oriented toward lifelong learning,the construction of institutional support systems for faculty in cooperatively-run educational projects, a "Four-Dimensional Empowerment" model for sustainable EAP (English for Academic Purposes) teacher development, and challenges and opportunities in English and academic skills instruction.

    The conference emphasized alignment with national strategies in science and technology innovation, industrial development, and global engagement. It called for deepening international educational collaboration, expanding global partnerships, integrating world-class educational resources, strengthening agglomeration and leadership effects, and refining governance frameworks for internationalized education—with English teaching and research in Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run educational projects positioned as a key component in advancing educational governance capacity.

    Ms. Xiao noted that Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools has entered a new phase of high-quality development. To address contemporary challenges, WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute has implemented an "East-West Integrated" talent cultivation model that ensures faculty and students benefit from premium educational resources. She further advocated exploring new models of English instruction within cooperative programs and promoting deep integration of AI with language teaching.

    Speaker biography:

    Xiao Qiaoling is Dean of the WUST-Madrid Complutense Institute. She previously served as Director of the Office of International Relations, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office, Dean of the School of International Education, and Party Secretary of the School of International Education. A dedicated scholar in intercultural communication and international education, she has been honored as an "Outstanding Individual in Foreign Affairs" by Hubei Province and an "Outstanding Member" by the China Metallurgical Education Society. Her achievements include: First Prize in the Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Award; Author or chief editor of three textbooks; Publication of 18 academic papers; Recipient of WUST's "Model Teacher Award" and First Prize in the university's inaugural "Curriculum Ideological and Political Education" Teaching Design Competition; Supervisor of six Sino-foreign student innovation and entrepreneurship projects; and Mentor guiding teams to five national-level awards in Category B or above competitions.
