WUST News — A research team led by Professor Min Huasong from the School of Electronic Information at Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST), in collaboration with Associate Professor Li Shuguang's team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University and Professor Fang Bin's team from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, has developed an innovative soft myoelectric prosthetic hand. The related results have been published as the cover paper in the renowned international journal Advanced Intelligent Systems (Volume 7, Issue 5, 2025), under the title "A Robotic Prosthetic Hand for Computer Mouse Operations".

In this significant publication, Chen Ziming, a Ph.D. student from the School of Electronic Information at WUST, and He Yiming, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, are co-first authors.

Addressing the challenges amputees face when using standard computer peripherals, the team achieved breakthroughs through two core innovations: first, the application of dexterous soft robotic fingers to enhance operational flexibility, and second, the development of a "one-to-many mapping" myoelectric interaction interface to optimize human-machine interaction logic. Experimental results indicate that this prosthetic hand not only significantly reduces task completion time but also greatly decreases the users muscle load and control burden. This work provides crucial theoretical support and engineering practice references for solving the interaction challenges between amputees and computers, highlighting the broad application prospects of soft robotic prosthetic technology in medical rehabilitation and beyond.

2025 Q1 Wiley China Excellent Author Program

Since its publication, the paper has quickly garnered widespread attention within the international academic community, with download counts ranking among the journal's highest. In recognition of this high-quality research output, Professor Min Huasong and Ph.D. student Chen Ziming were awarded the certificate of 2025 Q1 Wiley China Excellent Author Program.

It is reported that Wiley has been strengthening its support for Chinese research to help China achieve the goals outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan for talent development, which emphasizes enhancing basic research and technological innovation. The award selection is based on data from Wiley's journals, which are widely recognized by the Chinese research community. The award aims to honor the significant contributions made by Chinese authors in advancing global scientific progress. (School of Electronic Information)
