WUST News - On November 18, the 2025 ShanghaiRanking released its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, with 12 disciplines from Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) making the list, ranking first among provincial universities in Hubei. Over the past six years, WUST has consistently maintained the highest total of ranked disciplines in the Ranking among Hubei provincial universities, securing the leading position.

According to the ranking, WUST’s 12 listed disciplines include: Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Instrument Science, Remote Sensing Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Energy Science and Engineering, and Nanoscience and Engineering. Among these, two disciplines were ranked within the global top 100.

The 2025 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluated more than 3,000 universities from 92 countries and regions across 57 subjects in five major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. Its indicator system comprises five modules—World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration—using nine objective metrics to reflect the international competitiveness of academic disciplines. The ranking draws on 46 internationally authoritative academic awards, 175 top academic journals (plus 26 leading conferences for Computer Science & Engineering and Artificial Intelligence), and 33 major international academic organizations to assess world-class academic performance impartially.
