    WUST Appoints Two Internationally Renowned Academics as Full-Time Distinguished Professors

    WUST News - On the morning of October 10, Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) held a high-level talent appointment ceremony. Professor Wang Qingguo, a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and an internationally renowned scholar in Automation and Artificial Intelligence, along with Professor Chua Chee Kai, a member of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore and a leading figure in Additive Manufacturing, were appointed as Distinguished Professors at WUST. Ni Hongwei, Secretary of the WUST Party Committee, and President Lv Yong attended the ceremony, presenting university badges and appointment letters to the two professors.

    In his address, President Lv Yong extended a warm welcome to the two newly appointed academicians and introduced WUST’s history and key disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Science. He emphasized that the addition of the academicians would inject new vitality into the development of fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Additive Manufacturing, further enhancing the university's reputation and influence in the international academic community, and providing new support for the first-class discipline construction of the university. 


    Academician Wang Qingguo expressed his honor in joining WUST full-time, noting the university’s long history, distinct industry characteristics, and outstanding disciplinary advantages. He looks forward to collaborating with colleagues to advance the university’s research in Automation and AI, foster international academic exchanges, and contribute to talent cultivation reforms, thereby supporting WUST’s high-quality development.



    Academician Chua Chee Kai remarked that the WUST is a university with profound academic heritage and a strong sense of social responsibility. He feels honored to join this outstanding academic community and viewed the appointment not as an end but as a new beginning—an opportunity to dedicate his knowledge, experience, and international connections to the university’s growth and global standing.

    Ni Hongwei expressed gratitude to the two academicians for their trust and support of the WUST, acknowledging the talent recruitment efforts of the related units and Professor Zhu Kunpeng for their recommendations. He stressed that talent is the primary resource and that the introduction of the two academicians distinguished scholars represents a major step in WUST’s “Strengthening the University with Talent” strategy. He urged relevant schools to actively engage with the academicians, quickly form research teams around their research directions, and foster innovative synergy. He also requested that functional departments and schools enhance their sense of responsibility, providing considerate services in team building, platform construction, funding support, and logistical assurance to help the professors settle in and contribute effectively.

    The ceremony was attended by key officials from the Office of the President, Office of Development and Planning, Undergraduate School, Graduate School, Office of Research and Development, Office of Human Resources, Office of International Relations, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation, School of Computer Science and Technology, as well as Distinguished Professor Zhu Kunpeng from the School of Mechanical Engineering and his team members. The head of the Office of Human Resources hosted the ceremony, and the head of the School of Mechanical Engineering introduced the academic achievements of the two academicians. Professor Chua Chee Kai’s wife, Wendy, was invited to attend the appointment ceremony. (Office of Human Resources)
