WUST News - On August 4, 2025, the results of the Metallurgical Science and Technology Award were announced. Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) received awards for eight achievements, including one first prize and three third prizes as the leading institution. This marks the first time the WUST has won a first prize as the leading institution, achieving a historic breakthrough in this award.

The first prize project, Research and Application of Key Technologies and Equipment for Intelligent Leveling of Advanced High-Strength Steel, was led by Professor Wang Lei, a young key faculty member of Professor Xia Xuhui's team. The project targets the urgent demand for precision forming of high-strength steel in the high-end manufacturing industry, overcoming bottlenecks in the development of core technologies and equipment for intelligent leveling. It successfully addresses common industry challenges, and the related outcomes have been applied in actual production, significantly enhancing China's core competitiveness in the field of high-performance steel precision processing.

The Metallurgical Science and Technology Award, established by the China Iron and Steel Association and the Chinese Society for Metals, is the highest scientific and technological award in China's metallurgical industry. It focuses on key core technologies in the industry and recognizes outstanding contributions in the development of critical common technologies, frontier disruptive technologies, and major engineering applications. This year, a total of 141 projects were recognized, including 3 special prizes, 28 first prizes, 38 second prizes, and 72 third prizes. (Institute of Science and Technology Development)
