WUST News Recently, Professor Zhang Haijun from the State Key Laboratory of Refractories and Metallurgy of WUST was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Founded in 1841, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is the world's oldest learned society in chemistry and also one of the most prestigious international authoritative scientific institutions. Each year, on the recommendation of experts, the Society elects as Fellows scientists in the UK and internationally who have made outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry, scientists in other fields who have had a significant impact on the field of chemistry, or outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution to the chemical community.

Professor Zhang Haijun is currently a second-level professor and a doctoral supervisor at the WUST. He has been successively honored with titles such as "Chu Tian Scholar" Distinguished Professor in Hubei Province, Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in Hubei Province, Distinguished Expert of the Overseas Chinese Intellectuals Introduction Project of the China Association for Science and Technology, Young Advanced Worker in Metallurgy of the Chinese Society for Metals, Henan Outstanding Youth Science Fund, Henan Provincial Academic and Technological Leader, and Wuhan Huanghe Yingcai Plan. He has led his team to be selected into the Innovative Group of the Hubei Natural Science Fund and the Excellent Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Innovation Team in Hubei Colleges and Universities, and has been continuously listed in Stanford University's "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking" of the top 2% top-notch scientists in the world from 2022 to 2024. He has published more than 560 scientific papers in domestic and foreign journals such as Nature Materials, with more than 330 papers indexed by SCI, more than 360 papers indexed by EI, and has been cited more than 8,000 times by SCI. He has won 9 provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress, has been granted and applied for more than 50 national invention patents, has published 3 academic monographs, and has presided over or participated in more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. He serves as a member of the Physical Chemistry Committee of Metallurgical Processes, an executive director of the China Engineering Ceramics Society, a member of the Inorganic Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Professional Committee of the Hubei Chemical Society, and an editorial board member of Materials, Interceram, China's Refractories and Refractories.
