WUST News On October 23rd, under the guidance and support of the China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center at Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the semi-finals of the second China-Africa Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, focusing on health and modern agriculture, were held in Wuhan, organized by the Office of International Relations of WUST.
The competition attracted 62 high-quality projects, out of which 25 were selected for the semi-finals. After intense roadshows and insightful evaluations from the judges, five projects such as Field Watchman - A New Choice for Green Insect-Resistant entered the finals.
In recent years, cooperation between Hubei Province and African countries has been advancing with increasing technological content. The technological development from Hubei has yielded fruitful results on African land. With the theme of Technological Innovation Facilitating Sustainable Development of China-Africa Partnerships, this competition aims to further inspire the vitality of Chinese and African youth in innovation and entrepreneurship, broaden the space for cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship, and foster the development of a national-level platform for China-Africa youth innovation and entrepreneurship collaboration. The event was honored to have speeches delivered by Liu Sheng, Deputy Director of the China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center, and Hu Jian, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee of WUST. Ni Lang, a member of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, provided remarks on behalf of the judging panel.

This event gathered project teams from various universities such as Tongji University, Xiamen University, China University of Geosciences, Hubei University, WUST, and Three Gorges University, as well as joint China-Africa entrepreneurial teams. It aimed to explore and develop the fields of health and modern agriculture, promote economic cooperation between China and Africa, and ensure that African researchers and students who have studied in China can contribute their efforts after returning home, jointly promoting sustainable development of health and modern agriculture in China and Africa.
This competition has gathered outstanding young entrepreneurs from China and Africa, who carry dreams and pursue excellence, striving for a better future. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, this event aims to bring together innovative forces to seize the opportunities for China-Africa cooperation and contribute to the mutual progress of the global community. Its objective is to address developmental challenges and create more youth entrepreneurship opportunities, advancing sustainable development in education, science and technology, healthcare, and modern agriculture in China and Africa.
The competition aims to implement the spirit of "Four Propositions" and "Nine Projects" highlighted in the speech by President Xi Jinping during the opening ceremony of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It actively embraces the activities outlined in the Dakar Action Plan (2022-2024) and further promotes exchange and collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship among Chinese and African youths. The goal is to inspire entrepreneurial mindset and provide platforms and opportunities to showcase the innovative entrepreneurial projects of young talents from China and Africa.
