Delegation from Hong Kong Polytechnic University Visits WUST to Jointly Promote the Construction of Innovation Technology Research Institute

WUST News (reporter: Li Fang) A delegation led by Professor Christopher Chao, Vice President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, visited WUST on July 19 to further deepen the cooperation and promote the construction of the Institute of Innovative Technology. The Party Secretary Xu Yanbing, Vice Principal Lv Yong, and Ma Teng held a discussion and exchange with Professor Christopher Chao and his delegation in the meeting room on the 18th floor of the main building. Chen Hanhua, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Hubei Provincial Government, accompanied the visit, and relevant department heads of WUST attended the meeting.
Professor Christopher Chao indicated that Hong Kong Polytechnic University is one of the oldest universities in Hong Kong, with a solid scientific and technological foundation and many high-quality scientific and technological talents. He hopes that giving full play to their respective scientific and technological advantages in Hubei and Hong Kong, the two universities will strengthen scientific and technological cooperation in industrial technology innovation fields such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine and smart city, actively explore the layout of cooperation in Wuhan, and promote scientific and technological innovation cooperation in joint talent training and other aspects.
Chen Hanhua mentioned that the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Hubei Province will actively promote the cooperation with Hong Kong Polytechnic University in scientific and technological innovation, talent training, achievement transformation and other aspects. He added that the signing of the Arrangement of the Hubei Hong Kong Cooperation Conference Mechanism between the People's Government of Hubei Province and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will build an exchange and cooperation platform in the field of talent cultivation and innovative science and technology research and help Hong Kong Polytechnic University and WUST to build an innovative technology research institute with practical actions.
At the meeting, Ma Teng, Vice President of WUST, and Professor Christopher Chao introduced the situation and cooperation ideas of the two universities, and experts and scholars from Hong Kong Polytechnic University introduced the latest scientific research achievements and technical projects. The two universities are seeking common development and cooperation around scientific and cultural exchanges, applied scientific research, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
Xu Yanbing indicated that Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a world-renowned innovative university, which pays attention to both basic research and application promotion, and has made remarkable achievements in academic research, social services, and international cooperation. This exchange and discussion is aimed at deepening the implementation of the spirit of the Hubei-Hong Kong Cooperation Conference and strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong in the fields of education, technology, and talent. Xu Yanbing expressed the desire to promote the cooperation and connection with Hong Kong Polytechnic University to share advantageous resources, promote the construction of a regional innovation system, actively explore the joint construction of research institutes, strengthen scientific and technological innovation cooperation, implement joint talent training and other aspects, create the cooperation model between Hubei and Hong Kong universities, enhance the technological innovation and comprehensive competitiveness of Hubei's advantageous industries, and further promote the construction of first-class disciplines in WUST, opening a window for WUST to the world's leading technologies.
Before the meeting, the delegation visited the High Performance Steel Materials Laboratory, Advanced Materials and Nano-technology Research Institute, Robotics and Intelligent System Research Institute, and Advanced Carbon Material Engineering Research Center.
Having held online cooperation talks in October 2022，Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited WUST this time to deepen previous cooperation and explore new ways of cooperation.
As a public comprehensive research university, Hong Kong Polytechnic University has established close partnerships with many top universities and colleges in the world, signing academic cooperation agreements with about 300 universities in more than 40 countries or regions. Its partners include Cambridge University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Renmin University of China, Microsoft, Boeing, Alibaba, Huawei and other famous universities and institutions.
Hu Jian, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Hubei Province, Huang Zhen, Vice President of the Hong Kong and Hubei Association and member of the CPPCC Hubei Provincial Committee, Chen Hua, Vice President of the Hubei Hong Kong Association and member of the CPPCC Hubei Provincial Committee, and Li Jing, Director of the Hong Kong Government Office in Wuhan, attended the event.
