News A delegation led by Thomas Schmidt, Deputy Governor and Minister
of Regional Development of Saxony, Germany, visited WUST to review the
achievements of the bilateral cooperation and explore new cooperation
opportunities on July 14.
Ni Hongwei, President of WUST, welcomed the delegation and
introduced the basic situation of WUST, the achievements of
international exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and German
universities, the construction of advantageous and characteristic
disciplines, and the deepening of innovative cooperation. President Ni
hopes that with the help of theForeign Affairs Office of Hubei Provincial People’s Government, the
two universities will deepen the cooperation in cultural exchanges,
talent training, scientific research and other aspects in the future, so
as to continuously promote the opening up of high-level education and
enhancing their new advantages in international cooperation and
competition.
Thomas Schmidt highly praised the cooperation achievements
between Saxony and WUST in the past two decades. He indicated that the
delegation gathered political, economic, scientific and technological
elites, hoping to carry out closer cooperation with WUST based on
Saxony's advantages in microelectronics, automobile manufacturing and
other fields. "We look forward to strengthening openness and cooperation
in the transformation and application of scientific and technological
achievements!" Michael Mertig,
director of Kurt Schwabe Institute for Measurement and Sensor
Technology introduced the practical achievements of its sensors in
fields such as agriculture, environmental protection, and medicine, and
expressed the desire to strengthen cooperation in scientific research
and development, continuously accelerating the promotion and application
of scientific and technological achievements.
WUST has cooperated with Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg for 20 years since 2003. After the Governor of Saxony and the Minister of Education of Saxony have successively visited WUSTIn 2007 and 2008, the two universities officially signed a cooperation agreement. In 2018, the two universities signed a cooperation agreement on jointly building an
international laboratory, which was certified as the Hubei Province
Advanced Refractory Materials Innovation and Introduction Base.
Since
the beginning of the cooperation, more than 20 backbone teachers and
more than 40 master and doctoral students have been jointly trained, and
have been approved by the National Scholarship Council for the
International Cooperation and Training Program for Innovative Talents.
In the past five years, the two universities have jointly undertaken
more than 20 international collaborative research projects in the field
of materials and metallurgy, published over 150 papers, jointly
formulated one ISO international standard, authorized two international
invention patents, and jointly held 15 international academic
conferences.
