    WUST and PolyU Held Online Discussions Regarding Cooperation

     Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) held an online conversation on October 3. The meeting was hosted by Xiao Qiaoling, Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office and attended by Teng Jinguang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of PolyU, Christopher Chao, Vice President of PolyU, Ni Hongwei, President of WUST, and Liu Jing, Vice President of WUST.


    Ni Hongwei highly praised the achievements of PolyU in academic research, social services, and international schools. He also highlighted the achievements of WUST in science and technology innovation as well as the concepts of international exchange and collaboration. He stated that PolyU, as a world-class university, has a number of disciplines ranked among the world and many research institutes and research centers that address key national development needs. WUST attaches great importance to this cooperation, and hopes that both sides will actively explore the joint construction of high-level research institutes, innovative industrial colleges, training international talents, and other aspects, to jointly build a brand of education cooperation between Hong Kong and Hubei.


    According to Teng Jinguang, PolyU firmly follows the motto of To learn and to Apply, for the Benefit of Mankind and is actively incorporated with the overall development of the nation. Under the new development pattern of mutually beneficial cooperation and synergistic development between Hubei and Hong Kong, PolyU hopes to make contributions to higher education together with WUST. As a leading province of science and education, Hubei Province benefits from a unique geographical location and favorable talent resources. WUST has a solid scientific research foundation, a long history of education, and remarkable achievements in industrial applications. By combining their respective advantages, the two universities can jointly cultivate applied talents with high quality and international competitiveness.

    Liu Jing stated that WUST will fully utilize the strengths from all aspects, excellently allocate resources, and take advantage of this cooperation opportunity to achieve new levels of growth. Wong Chun, Chairman of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Trade and Economic Committee and member of the Election Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, congratulated both sides for their cooperation.

    Lu Haitian, Director of Mainland Development Office of PolyU, Cao Jiannong, Dean of the Graduate School of PolyU, Wong Chun, Chairman of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Trade and Economic Committee and member of the Election Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Chen Zhigang, Director of Development Planning Office of WUST attended the meeting.

    PolyU is a general public research university located in Hong Kong, China. In 2022, PolyU ranks 65th in the QS World University Rankings and 91st in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In addition, in the QS World University Rankings by subject, the Hospitality and Leisure Management, Engineering – Civil and Structural, and Art and Design of PolyU rank the 10th, 15th and 16th, respectively, which makes the university ranks 1st in Hong Kong. The Business and Economics of PolyU ranks 25th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and ranks 1st in Hong Kong. In the Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Hospitality and Leisure Management of PolyU ranks 1st, Engineering – Civil and Structural ranks the 4th, and Transportation Science & Technology ranks the 5th.

    PolyU has established close partnerships with many of the world's leading universities and institutions. For example, it has signed academic cooperation agreements with about 300 institutions in more than 40 countries or regions. Its partners include the University of Cambridge, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Renmin University of China, Microsoft, Boeing, Alibaba, and Huawei.
